Grade 1
At St. Pius X School, Grade 1 is a year of magic. Children learn to read, or increase their reading, and therefore, the world of books open up for them. In Religion, many topics are covered with particular attention to Baptism and learning additional prayers. Many areas are covered in Mathematics including geometry, time, money, addition, subtraction, graphs and collecting data among them. Studying number facts starts here! In Science, we learn about plants and sound and light waves as well as animals and their life cycles. Social Studies covers being a good citizen, where we are in relation to the world, economics (need vs wants and goods vs services) to name a few.

Grade 2
The students in St. Pius X Grade 2 are educated spiritually, socially, and emotionally. The core academic subjects include religion, mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and reading. The curriculum is further enhanced with music, art, physical education, Spanish, and technology. In addition, the students are taught empathy towards others and the teacher provides opportunities for lessons on social justice, selflessness, and civic responsibility through service towards others. An example of this would be when the students make cards for the elderly, sick, or sympathy cards for families who have lost a loved one, or thank you cards for various members of the community. The students are encouraged to recognize their individual gifts from God and use them to the best of their ability. Most important, the students are taught kindness towards their classmates and learn to work cooperatively in pairs or small groups.
