Lower School

  • Pre-K

Get a step ahead and enroll your 4-year-old child into the St. Pius X Pre-K program. Our hands-on, play-based approach ensures learning is both challenging and child-centered in a faith-filled environment focusing on age appropriate development.

    Faith-Based Benefits
Your child will learn and grow in a faith-based environment where Catholic values are promoted and character development is reinforced every day. Our Pre-K program introduces Jesus’ role by incorporating the love of God into every aspect of the day. Your child will learn from teachers and aides who are faith-centered, loving, and nurturing.

    Development and Supportive Environment
Our Pre-K education focuses on preparation for kindergarten and beyond with the right balance to develop, support and challenge your child through exploration, social interaction and play. Our classrooms are fun and adventurous where life skills and kindergarten preparation are taught and reinforced. Children are encouraged to explore and discover their surroundings to learn how to play with others, understand how things work, problem solve and use their imagination.

    Readiness Criteria
In order for your child to love learning and enjoy being in school, we strive to have your child experience a smooth transition into the Pre-K environment. Every child is unique in their readiness; thus, parents are encouraged to reach out to the school principal to discuss any questions concerning your child’s readiness. Please note our requirements to enter Pre-Kl:

  • Grade 1

At St. Pius X School, Grade 1 is a year of magic. Children learn to read, or increase their reading, and therefore, the world of books open up for them. In Religion, many topics are covered with particular attention to Baptism and learning additional prayers. Many areas are covered in Mathematics including geometry, time, money, addition, subtraction, graphs and collecting data among them. Studying number facts starts here! In Science, we learn about plants and sound and light waves as well as animals and their life cycles. Social Studies covers being a good citizen, where we are in relation to the world, economics (need vs wants and goods vs services) to name a few.

  • Grade 2

The students in St. Pius X Grade 2 are educated spiritually, socially, and emotionally. The core academic subjects include religion, mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and reading. The curriculum is further enhanced with music, art, physical education, Spanish, and technology. In addition, the students are taught empathy towards others and the teacher provides opportunities for lessons on social justice, selflessness, and civic responsibility through service towards others.  An example of this would be when the students make cards for the elderly, sick, or sympathy cards for families who have lost a loved one, or thank you cards for various members of the community. The students are encouraged to recognize their individual gifts from God and use them to the best of their ability.  Most important, the students are taught kindness towards their classmates and learn to work cooperatively in pairs or small groups.
